Somali Regional State is highly rich in natural resources. It has vast irrigable
lands. It is also blessed with diverse mineral resources and livestock
potentials.
Agriculture
The Region mainly grows
cereals, pulses, fruits and vegetables. These include maize, sorghum, wheat,
barely, beans, and peas, Horticultural harvests such as citrus, tomato, onion,
pepper, banana, mango and papaya, Oilseeds such as sesame, peanuts and sun
flower. Cash crops such as cotton, coffee and chat.
The region is also
highly rich in livestock resources and fish potential. Its pastoral society
entirely depend on livestock for their survival.
Its proximity to the
port of Djibouti, Somalia and Kenya is a great opportunity to foreign markets.
Investment in the livestock sector is highly attractive and promising. The
region is suitable for ranching.
Moreover, the Somali
regional state is also cherished with natural forest enriched with diversity of
plant spieces and wild life.
On the other hand, the
region is specially known to have to the potential of natural gum, myrrh and
incese yielding tree speices Zonal administrations such as Afder, Fik and Liban
yield best quality Arabic gum, segal gum, black incense, black and red myrrh.
Mining
Somali R State also has
considerable mineral resource potential Its deposits of natural gas, petroleum,
salt, god, feldspar, mica, graphite, kaolin, magnetite, phosphoric tale and some
other building materials are among the unexploited natural potentials.
Above all, the region is
also blessed with oil mineral origin and gas resources. Here, Private investors
have wider opportunity to exploit this untapped potential. In line with this,
the Kalub and Hillal natural gases are the region’s largest energy resources
centers creating conducive environment for investors to participate in the
development and utilization of the natural gas resources.
Tourism
The Somali national
regional State is naturally endowed with panoramic scenery of breath taking
attractions. To cite only some, the Karamara mountain chains, stretching to the
north and south proudly stand high enough over looking at Jijiga-Harargie high
lands, The Babille(Dakata) rock valley majestically stands on either side of
Harar-Jijiga high way exhibiting a very unique attraction that could fascinate
both domestic and foreign tourists alike. The Erer Gota hot spring which was
once been the private resort area of the late emperor Haile Sellasie I and his
imperial family, lying some 218 kms from Jijiga offers most significant comfort
for visitor. Besides, varieties of mammals and endemic birds in have it the
region. Rivers Genalle and Wabe Shebellie are also sanctuaries of bigger mammals
such as hippos and crocodiles. Quite a good number of birds are also observed
inhabiting the banks of these big rivers. The major wild life of the region
include: giraffe, crocodiles, Hippo, gerenuk, ostrich, Cheetah, Lion and the
Lewopard. Debetak is an endemic mammal found only in the region. More over,
mustahil and Buro districts, some 20 kms west of dodo town in Liban Zone have
the potential for establishing parks.
