INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN ETHIOPIA |
|

Ethiopia
is an investment-friendly country with a stable-macro-economic
environment. Its monetary policies have played a significant role
in creating an enabling climate to addressing the needs of the
public, assisting the economic activities and attracting investors.
Ethiopia has been taking apt measures to improving the investment
policy of the country with the aim to promoting sustainable economic
development.
Ethiopia is a country with vast
investment opportunities and it is a reliable business partner.
The government of Ethiopia has been taking different measures
to create a more conducive investment lands cape with the aim
to stimulating investment and encouraging the private sector to
explore these investment potentials. Ethiopia’s viable economic
environment, the investment code with its incentive bonanza both
at federal and regional levels, the untapped natural resources
and the availability of a relatively cheap labor force are said
to be the major investment attracting factors.
As a result the domestic investment
activities and the foreign investment inflows into the country
have greatly increased. So far, from July 2002 to June 2004 Over
10,285 investment project with an aggregate capital of 11.2 Billion

of agriculture, industry and agor-industry construction, mining,
fuel and natural gas exploration, trade, education, hotel and
tourism, power supply, transport and communication etc
When these projects go operational,
it is expected to create employment opportunities for 525,443
permanent and 672,180 temporary job-seekers . Among the licensed
projects, 728 projects with a total capital of 25.6 billion birr
are foreign owned. When these start operation, they will create
job opportunities for 96,274 permanent and 92,182 temporary workers.
Generally, the various policy
reforms taken by the government in recent years have helped in
increasing local and foreign investment in flows in the country.
Though we can not presume to have
an exhaustive picture of the investment opportunities that the
country can afford, we feel, this brochure is a modest attempt
to show the various investment potentials of the country and is
hoped to be suitable for prospective local and foreign investors.
