Agriculture
The region is greatly
endowed with fertile soil, abundant water potential and favorable climatic
condition for farming and animal husbandry. In line with this, crops such as
cereals, pulses, oilseeds, fruits and vegetable are grown. As of recent times,
the newly introduced cash commodities such as coffee and cut flower have shown
promising results.
The region has a large
number of livestock population. This promising potential resource calls for
interested investors to develop the sector in a way to reap better results. In
line with this, cattle fattening, dairy farming, and dairy by products
processing, and forage processing are among the most rewarding activities in the
area.
The region water
resources provide vast fishing potential. The annual catch potential from lake
Tana alone, is estimated at thousand tones. However, the annual catch production
presently is reported to be not more than 7.9 tones.
The region has favorable
conditions for apiculture. The diverse vegetative area and the climatic
environment show great potential for investment in honey production and
processing. Most of the Amhara region produces a variety of cereals, pulses,
spices, vegetables, fruits etc.In the western parts of the region over 164,000
hectares of fertile land available for the production of cash crops. Studies
indicate that in the neighborhood of 657,550 hectares of land in the region is
suitable for irrigation.
On the other hand forest
development is another area of investment opportunity. Mean while, in the
region’s low land areas incense and gum production efforts have remained minimal
because of traditional management and poor harvesting techniques. Amhara region
is also known for its incense and wild gum trees. This is also another potential
area of investment.
Industry
The sector highly
demands special involvement of investors. Therefore, investors have wider
opportunity to join the sector and improve the production activities
qualitatively. The region has tremendous resource potentials. The region has
reliable market potential, cheap labour force abundant supply of raw materials
to industries.
The demand for resource
in agro-industry include: Grain cleaning and processing, flour mill, malt
factory, ginnery and spinning, sugar factory, spaghetti and macaroni factory,
bakery, biscuits and sweets factory, clothes, textiles thread and yarn factory,
hair oil and pure fulmar factories, fertilizers, chemicals and insecticides and
matches factories tanneries, leather wear, foot wear, bags, luggage’s and gloves
factories etc…
Mining
the region also has
rich mineral resources which include limestone, gypsum, silica, clay, opal,
marble, granite and gold. Therefore, potential investors are strongly encouraged
to invest in mining investment. There are abundant exploitable mineral resource
in the region.
Construction
The construction
business is increasing in the region. The construction of commercial building
infrastructure, residential housing units is picking up in the region.
Therefore, the construction field is a promising investment opportunities
in the state.
Tourism
The region is one of the
top tourist destinations in the country. The region is one of the richest in
historic, cultural and natural tourists attraction sites. The region is situated
at the heart of the historic route of Ethiopia. Therefore, the sector demands
the expansion and distribution of modern hotel, lodges, restaurants and tour
operation management which encouragement which encourages investors to join the
sector.
