Most Ethiopians belong to Ethiopian Orthodox Church or are followers of
Islam. Churches and mosques are found throughout the country. On
non-fasting days (every Wednesday and Friday being among the 239 fasting
days) Orthodox Church services start very early, at 0500.
Muslims observe the five daily hours of salat (prayer) and in Addis
Ababa jummah is observed to the big Anwar Mosque and other mosques,
Friday at 1200.
The big, Modern Trinity Cathedral at Arat Kilo, behind the parliament
building, is a good place for attending Orthodox services. Ecumenical
services are also occasionally held there.
In Addis Ababa there are places of worship to accommodate most religious
creeds. |
